Installation Instructions

Congratulations on your new aquarium! Planet Aquariums are built right here in Texas and are crafted by master tank builders with a combined experience of over 50 years. Our aquariums are beautiful, affordable and made to last!

To ensure that your new aquarium can be enjoyed for many years to come, please make sure to follow the directions and guidelines below.

Transporting Your Aquarium

Aquariums must be transported on an evenly-supported solid surface. When lifting the aquarium, all sides must be lifted equally. Do not put the aquarium on its end or on its side as doing so may cause the aquarium to crack. The aquarium must be completely empty when it is being moved.

Placing Your Aquarium

Extreme temperature and excessive UV can cause the silicone to degrade. If metal halide fixtures are used, make sure there is at least 12” from the bottom of the light fixture to the top of the aquarium. Also, make sure the proper UV or glass shields are installed.

Planet aquariums are designed for indoor use only. Do not install the aquarium outdoors or in direct exposure to sunlight. The aquarium should also not be placed in a room with no insulation or no climate control.

Installing Your Aquarium

If this is your first aquarium or if you are unsure about how to properly level your aquarium, we recommend hiring or consulting with an aquarium professional. Always install aquariums away from any electrical appliances. Do not modify any parts of your aquarium as it may compromise the aquarium’s integrity and will void warranty.

Leveling and Supporting Your Aquarium

It is extremely crucial that the aquarium is placed on a properly-supported level surface to ensure water pressure is evenly exerted on the seams. Majority of tank failures are caused by uneven surfaces. Use a Bubble or laser leveler to ensure the aquarium is level. Re-check level regularly.

Shimming Your Aquarium

When necessary, shims should be used to ensure the aquarium is level. Shims should be placed between the bottom of the stand and the floor. Place shims directly beneath the stand support beams. Adjust shims to level the empty aquarium. Fill the aquarium then readjust the shims. Once leveled, place shims every 4” along the bottom of the stand to fill in the gaps. Re-check level after 2 weeks, then every couple of months. Note any irregularities (bowing, level, silicone color in bracing).

Maintaining Your Aquarium

Do not use metal blades near the aquarium seams. Metal blades may damage the silicone seams and weaken its structural integrity. Clean off any salt creep as salt crystals will weaken the silicone joints over time. Make sure to not put any weight on aquarium when servicing the aquarium. Use a step stool or a ladder when necessary. Slight bowing is normal and is acceptable. If excessive bowing, new bubbles in the silicone seams or fogging of clear silicone is observed, check the level and make adjustments as necessary.

Insuring Your Aquarium and Home

Having a large body of water in a home carries the inherent risk of flooding. Check with your home insurance to make sure that your aquarium and home are covered. We recommend having a back-up plan for your aquarium inhabitants during an emergency. Being ready and well-prepared will help to ensure that you can enjoy your aquarium for many years to come.
